The Hanna Sisters

  • Hanna Sisters single “Princes Port” selected as Hot Press magazines Pick of the Fortnight

Hot Press magazine have selected the Hanna Sisters single “Princes Port” as their prestigious “pick of the fortnight” in their 15th November edition. Hot Press magazine, widely regarded as the islands leading entertainment publication and as such, this accolade certainly lends critical acclaim to the first offering from their new album.

In the same edition Jackie Hayden (the man who first signed an unknown Dublin Band -  U2 - to a record label) gave the early draft of the Album this review:

The Hanna Sisters are from County Armagh and they regularly grace venues around northern Europe as well as here at home. They have a debut album called 'About Time' in production with Rod McVey, but from the tracks I've heard it'll make a crackling good pop-rock album with obvious trad nuances. 'In Time' sizzles over a solid beat, an infectious melody and some fine violin playing from Nuala Hanna. 'Hotline to your Soul' is more laid back with delicious harmonies and a gem of a chorus. 'Princes Port' ups the ante again and delivers a fine radio-friendly track. The Hanna Sisters offer us classy, intelligent pop songs, tastefully blended with their exhilarating Irish traditional musicianship, all topped off with their fine harmonies. Mainstream Irish radio needs records like this.

The Armagh based sister singer/songwriters were obviously delighted at the news; Nuala says,

“The first we knew was when we were contacted by one of the radio stations who feature the ‘pick of the fortnight’. We were over the moon when we became aware that “Princes Port” had been selected but were even happier when we went on to read the review.  We said at the time that we had written the album as much for ourselves as for anyone else but it’s still a nerve wracking experience putting your work out into the public forum. To have someone of Jackie Haydens stature in the music business give our work such a positive critical review is fantastic.”

The Hanna Sisters also launched details of their February and March Danish and Irish Tour schedule. The tour dates are scheduled to mirror closely dates for the release of their new album “About Time” from which their first single Princes Port was released in October 2007.
